Politicians say nothing

I read what they said, Starmer and Macron, and it struck me that they said nothing. They stood on a podium or on the floor in Parliament and their mouths moved and sounds came out but when they spoke they said nothing. Politicians have this gift. They speak but say nothing and with that nothing comes no action.

They spoke about the war in Iran and opening the Strait of Hormuz. They have decided to help. They consider sending warships to the Strait. This Friday, 40 nations will be on a video call to talk about opening the Strait. These are ’non-belligerent’ countries. Not countries on a peace mission, delivering food or medicine or transporting out injured children from Iran, but ’non-belligerent.’

Iran might feel different when they see warships on the water near the Strait. A foreign navy sailing towards your country carrying guns and missiles and troops will be seen as belligerent by most leaders. More so when you are at war with the ally of the non-belligerent nations.

We should not be concerned. As I said, Macron and Starmer said nothing. There will be no sailing towards Iran unless the war is over and the Strait is open.

Starmer said he will not be dragged into a war and that the US lacked a clear ‘through plan.’ Starmer is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The Prime Minister cannot be dragged into war. He chooses to go to war. Or not to. Starmer talks as if Trump is dragging him to war and he bravely resists. He is the victim and the hero. To say that the war with Iran is wrong and that Trump must recall his ships and his jets and that the UK does not support the killing of Iranians because of Trump’s ego is not Starmer.

Macron spoke of a ‘multilateral response.’ I do not know what this means. Multilateral says everyone and everyone is no one. He did not say who would do what by when or how. No actor is named. No actions are assigned. No outcomes are named.

Starmer said he ‘rallied France’s initiative’ of a multilateral response. He wants to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait. If he wants to restore freedom in the Strait, he must tell Donald Trump to remove his naval blockade and to stop bombing Iran.

Before Trump dropped bombs on Iran the Strait was open and the ships and the oil could sail through. Trump is the reason the Strait is closed.

I apologise because all I have written up to now is moot. Starmer and Macron said this non-belligerent mission will begin once the war with Iran ends. Once Trump tells his troops to leave they will send their warships to a strait that needs no defending. The ships will sail toward peaceful waters to protect against nothing. Success.

What did Macron and Starmer say? They said they would wait and do nothing. They did not say they oppose the war. They did not tell Trump to stop his bombs. They did not send ships because it costs money and men and voters. They did not lie or mislead. They said nothing. This is worse than lying.

When the war ends these two men will again stand at the podium and say the multilateral response by the non-belligerent nations was a success.

In Gaza, Israel killed at least 23,000 kids, and world leaders issued statements and condemnations daily. But trade with Israel continued and still continues and no nation sent troops to help the Palestinian children who needed medicine and surgery to survive. No. But they sent statements to the media.

When Israel is done cleansing Gaza the world leaders will be there handing out food and water and medication. They will issue more statements. Photos will be taken. They will claim they helped. They will condemn the suffering they see. Israel razed Gaza.

There is nothing left.
