11 May 2026: Trump cuts will kill
Trump cut USAID. He froze PEPFAR. He signed Medicaid cuts at home. These are not small acts hidden in a ledger. They are choices that move through clinics, drug supply chains, mosquito nets, food programs, eligibility offices, and hospital doors.
ImpactCounter projects 7.1 million additional malaria cases in children and 53,577 child malaria deaths in one year. It projects 262,915 adult deaths and 518,428 child deaths from foreign-aid funding discontinuation. Its PEPFAR tracker projects 159,272 adult deaths and 16,954 child deaths from the disruption of HIV treatment and prevention. At home, Medicaid cuts are projected to strip coverage from millions and add preventable deaths here too.
The numbers are shocking because the mechanism is simple. Cut the money and the medicine stops. Cut the program and the worker leaves. Cut the shipment and the net never arrives. Cut the coverage and the doctor visit becomes a bill a poor family cannot pay. The damage does not announce itself with flags or speeches. It comes as fever. It comes as missed pills. It comes as a mother walking farther for care and finding the clinic closed.
This is how power hides harm. It uses words like efficiency, pause, waiver, eligibility, reform. It turns death into administration. It makes the poor prove they deserve to live.
But bodies keep the books. Children carry the fever. Patients carry the virus. Parents carry the debt. Nurses carry the empty shelves. The budget line moves in Washington. The cost lands somewhere else.
There is no mystery here. The lives saved by aid were real; the lives lost to cuts will be real too.
So say it plainly. Trump cut. People will die. The estimates are projections, not a death registry. But they are not fantasy. They are warnings. A humane country would hear them and stop the harm before the count becomes a graveyard.
