On Wednesday, 7 January 2026, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he had ‘determined’ the military budget for 2027 should be $1.5 trillion—not $1 trillion—for ‘the Good’ of the country in ‘these very troubled and dangerous’ times. The current budget is $901 billion. His figure would mean a sixty-six percent increase from today and a fifty percent increase from the $1 trillion. He said he reached this determination ‘after long and difficult negotiations with Senators, Congressmen, Secretaries, and other Political Representatives.’ He named no senator. He named no foe. He named no threat. He offered no calculation. He did not propose. He did not suggest. He determined.
In fiscal year 2025, federal spending reached $7.01 trillion. Revenues were $5.23 trillion. The deficit was $1.78 trillion. The government spent $1.34 for every dollar it collected, and to close the gap, it sells bonds. The debt now exceeds $38 trillion, and the number keeps climbing. Trump said tariffs would pay for the increase. He spoke of ‘the tremendous Income that they bring.’ From October 2024 to September 2025, tariffs contributed $195 billion. The Congressional Budget Office estimates roughly $230 billion per year over the next decade. The $500 billion increase is more than double the annual tariff revenue. The maths does not work. The Supreme Court is reviewing whether Trump’s tariff policies are lawful. The decision is pending.
Between March and May 2025, Operation Rough Rider saw over 1,000 strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. Roughly 300 people were killed, including over 70 at the Ras Isa oil port and 68 African migrants at a detention centre in Saada. An Oman-brokered ceasefire ended the campaign. In June, the U.S. bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, Isfahan. On Christmas Day, US Tomahawk missiles struck Islamic State camps in northwest Nigeria. Trump said it was to protect persecuted Christians. From September 2025, the US military sank at least 35 boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, killing more than 115 people. It claimed these were narco-trafficking vessels linked to Venezuela. Many victims were fishermen. And in January 2026, Trump ordered Nicolas Maduro to be pulled from his bedroom, put on a U.S ship, and brought to New York to stand trial. No nation attacked the U.S. homeland in 2025.
Trump determined. He determined the threat. He determined the amount. He determined tariffs would pay. The threat is unnamed. The maths does not work. The bombs are real.
